At this point in history, the enemy has waged a fear campaign unlike any I have ever seen. His campaign is centered around the coronavirus (it doesn’t deserve a capital “c”), and his platform is built on fear. In my contact with unbelievers, and believers alike, I have seen that there is not much of a difference between the two in the face of this situation. They speak the same. They act the same. And that should not be the case. As a believer, you should be set apart from the unbeliever. You should act and speak very differently.
Unbelievers have a reason to live in fear and doubt, but you don’t. If you are living in fear of this virus, that is a reflection of an unbelief in the power of God’s word to protect you from it. It means you have forgotten the way God has already moved in your life. You’ve forgotten what you’ve learned. You’ve forgotten that the Word has power, and that greater is He that lives in you than he that lives in the world (1 John 4:4). The Word says that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow (Philippians 2:10), and the coronavirus has already bowed its knee to the mighty name of Jesus. No doubt about it. It is on its way out. You have nothing to fear.
Unshakable
Everyone wants to be unshakable in the face of any situation the enemy throws at them, but few actually know how to do that. They profess to believe that they are already healed by the finished works of Jesus, but when the storm pounds on their front door, they cower in fear. Their minds are overrun with “what-ifs.” What if a case is reported in my city? What if supplies run out? What if this quarantine never ends?
If this is you, stop it. It’s time to stand up, and on, God’s Word. It’s time for you to become unshakable. Here’s how:
I have set the Lord always before me;
because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
Psalm 16:8
As a child of God, this verse needs to be on your list of life verses, a part of your daily life, because it is how you will live and walk in victory. It is how you will walk through life with confidence as the world falls apart around you. It’s how you maintain joy and hope.
Your World is Not Uncertain
The world may be walking in uncertainty right now, but you as a believer are not. The world may not know how things are going to work out, but your end is sure. You have an entire Book that is filled with certainties. It is a Book of certainty.
God is not a man, that He should lie,
Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
Has He said, and will He not do?
Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
Numbers 23:19
It is certain because God won’t lie, so what’s in His Word is the truth. He won’t repent, which means He won’t change His mind. If it’s in there, it was good yesterday, today, and will be good tomorrow and forever. If He said it, He will be faithful to perform it (1 Thessalonians 5:24). If it says it in the Word, you can count on it. You can lean on it. Rely on it. Look to it for comfort. Use it to cast down every enemy of sickness, doubt, or fear. You can be certain that you’ve already overcome.
How to Be Unshakable
Getting back to the original verse, Psalm 16:8, the word “moved” in the Hebrew is translated as shaken, fallen, or slipped. That’s what the goal is, right? To not waver. Not fall. Not slip. Not be shaken up. The first part of the verse reveals the “how-to” of being solid in your walk through any situation you may face.
The key: I have set the Lord always before me.
When something is set before you, it is placed right in front of you, directly in your line of sight. You can’t miss it and you can’t see what’s beyond it. It blocks your view. By keeping God’s Word in front of your eyeballs, in your ears, and in your mind at all times, your thoughts will become His thoughts, your words His words, your actions His actions. Being blinded by His Word will cause you to be unshakable in the face of any situation to the point that no sickness, no pain, no disease, no demon in hell will be able to stand against you.
What You See is What You Get
If you are saturating your mind with the latest negative news and stats of the coronavirus, that is only going to lead to fear, anxiety, oppression, you name it. What you see and hear is what you think, and what you think is the reality that you will live (Proverbs 23:7).
However, if all you read is His Word and all you listen to is good teachings, then no coronavirus reports will cause fear because when the news reports the newest cases, your first thought is Psalm 91:7:
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Do you realize that if you are seeing people fall at your right hand and at your left, that the virus is literally right there? It’s knocking at your door. But even so, you can have confidence and rejoice that it will not come near you! It doesn’t matter how close it gets, if it surrounds every home around you, the promise you have, that you need to keep in the forefront of your mind, is that it will not come near you.
Project Your Hope
When you go to the grocery store, take a look at the faces around you. You will see reflections of fear, despair, and anxiety. Choose to be the light. Smile at them. Say hello. Don’t be upset if they ignore you, just smile and say hello to the next person. They’re going to think you’re weird, but that’s okay! Be different. Set apart. Show them by your countenance that they don’t have to be defeated, and always be ready to profess the reason for your hope, your joy, and your confidence!
What reality will you live in?
I’ve had people say that I need to prepare myself, that I need to get back to reality. My response? I am prepared. Just as David fought the lion and the bear before he faced Goliath, I have prepared for this battle. I have experienced the Word at work, the power of it to change my body and my mind. If the coronavirus is today’s Goliath, then I have already slayed it with the Word. You can, too.
As a believer, you choose what reality you live in. Will you live in the reality of statistics and probabilities, or the reality where sickness dies when it touches you because your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit? Will you live in the reality that the coronavirus is highly contagious, or the reality where if you come in contact with a sick person, they get healed instead of you getting sick?
Setting the Word always before you is the source of the unshakeable confidence you have, and will become the reality you live in.
Challenge
If you are living in fear and doubt and are easily shaken by the storms of life, then evaluate what you have set before your eyes and allowed into your ears. Unbelief and fear won’t just disappear on their own. You have to change what you’re seeing, hearing, and thinking to reflect what God sees and thinks.
I challenge you all to a fast … a fast of the negative news for a week. Some of you may find after a day or two that you’re addicted to it, and this is a perfect time to break that addiction. Replace all of that news with God’s Word, and I promise you that fear and anxiety will find no place in your mind to set up shop. Don’t allow one tidbit of news to be set before you, and you will become unshakeable through the power of His Word!
